Start off the year with Our 2nd Annual Spelling Bee Contest. Our objective is to help students to improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. Prizes and Certifications will be awarded.
E.Spy Kids Club: 1/14, 2/11,3/17
Do you think you can solve a crime better than Sherlock Holmes and Watson? Apply basic mathematics to make and break secret codes. The encryption systems covered in the range from classic ciphers that have been around for hundreds of years, such as the Caesar and Vigenere ciphers, to the modern RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) system that provides security for information passed over the Internet. Connections are made to the historical events and applications of recent mathematical research, giving students the opportunity to see mathematics as an exciting changing subject.
Book Club:
If I Had a Dragon/Si Yo Tuviera Un Dragon by Tom & Amanda Ellery: 2/18
We will have lots of fun in learning to read in Spanish. We will start in English and then repeat the very same phrase in Spanish. This is a story about a big brother who is told to play with his baby brother. He doesn't want to play with him because he is too little and wishes he could turn into something fun like a dragon.
Dr. Seuss:3/10
"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."What better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday in our book club than reading to a child? Dr. Seuss epitomizes a love of children and learning. Also, his use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful. When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we want to send a clear message to children that reading is fun and important.
